May is Morel Mushroom Time in Michigan!
Where and when can you find morel mushrooms? How do you identify the edible morels, and avoid their poisonous allies? This class will cover harvesting and preserving the mushrooms that have made northern Michigan a hot spot for collectors. Please note: This is not a field trip. Class will be held outside on the NCMC campus if weather permits, details will be emailed prior to the class. Samples will be displayed on tables while Marilynn presents in a lecture format. You will be required to wear masks and to keep social distance of 6 feet or more while reviewing her finds. Due to the unpredictableness of nature, class will need to be canceled if the various types of mushrooms are not available for Marilynn to collect prior to the class.
Marilynn Smith, has a B.S. and M.S. in mycology from University of Iowa. She has taught high school and college biology and worked as a medical mycologist. She did graduate studies and research at both the University of Vermont and UMBS.
ONLY one person per registration may attend. Due to COVID-19, attendance is limited to 20, so please cancel your registration if you are unable to attend so someone else can take your place. Thank you for understanding.
