“Invisible”? Joyce CarolOates born 1936 in rural New York, writer of a hundred novels and many short stories, won prizes galore including the National Book Award. She kept a low public profile, wanting the attention directed to her writings which examine family life, social evils, life’s struggles, survival, childhood and adult violence, poignant places and teaching in Detroit.
