From prehistoric artifacts through Byzantium’s influence and connection to Russian influences, Ukrainian artists created their own visual culture as they designed objects for various uses. Their western-style art is flavored by these influences but remains deeply rooted in the Ukrainian landscape and cultural experiences. This presentation gives a quick sketch of this long visual history.

Carol Veldman Rudie, Ph.D. is the Education Outreach Coordinator at the Museum of Russian Art in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She has been presenting many Russian Art classes as well as topics from the Romanovs, the Faberge and other icons for the University of Michigan.
