LEGO Robotics

Looking for a fun and educational experience for your child? Our LEGO Robotics class is the perfect blend of creativity, teamwork, and technology. This hands-on program is designed for kids of all experience levels, offering an exciting journey into the world of robotics.

  • Hands-On Learning: Students will have the opportunity to design, build, and code their very own LEGO Robot.
  • Teamwork: Collaboration is key! Kids will work in teams to construct robots that can overcome a variety of challenges.
  • Tech Exploration: Dive into the fascinating world of motors, sensors, and programming, gaining valuable skills along the way.

Equipment Provided:

  • LEGO SPIKE Prime sets
  • Laptops for coding and programming activities

Instructors:

Gerald Brusher, PhD, NCMC Director of Manufacturing and Engineering Technology

Dr. Brusher is the Director of Manufacturing and Engineering Technology at North Central Michigan College, focusing on the continued development of programs and courses to support the manufacturing base in Northern Michigan He has several years of teaching experience in engineering and physics, and has worked with a variety of hardware platforms, including LEGO, Fanuc, and Pegasus robots.   


Karen Drake, NCMC Mathematics Faculty

Karen Drake has been a Mathematics Instructor at North Central Michigan College since 1999.  Her first robotics competition was the Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) in June 1993.  She assisted with the IGVC until moving to Petoskey in 1999.  She became a FIRST Mentor in 2015 with FTC team G3 Geeks, Gears, and Gadgets then switched to FRC Petoskey Paladins in 2017.  Although not a LEGO League Mentor, she has worked as a volunteer for their competitions.
