We often hear that the country is now more politically and socially divided than ever before. Our country, however, has been through many bad years, and we have always pulled through. In this course we will take a look at the year 1877, one of the craziest years in United States history. It kicked off with a contested and confusing presidential election, millions of workers went on strike, the rich got richer, and white supremacists ended the last vestiges of Republican reconstruction in the South.
