
Conversational Japanese
This is a beginning/entry level Japanese course for students who have very little or no experience with Japanese language and culture. We will be learning both Hiragana and Katakana writing and reading as well as a very brief introduction to some Kanji. The class will be conversationally focused and introduce students to Japanese customs and culture. By the end of the course students will be able to introduce oneself, talk about weather, likes, work, food, shopping and so on.

Gabriel Mattice attended Michigan Technological University where he earned a chemical engineering degree. Following university, he moved to Japan where he worked for 3 years at GEOS Language Schools as an English language teacher. His Japanese language abilities helped Gabriel become an area leader of 5 schools in Kansai Japan, while he also taught karate classes in Japanese to the students in his karate school in Japan. After leaving Japan Gabriel attended law school at the William S. Richardson School of Law in Hawaii and earned his Juris Doctorate degree. Gabriel returned to Japan in 2016 and moved back to the United States in 2018. Gabriel is currently living in Harbor Springs and works as an Assistant Prosecutor for Emmet County.
