Join instructor Sheila Ruen as she guides the creative kiddo through daily art projects. With an emphasis on experimentation, students will be encouraged to play with different materials throughout the week while creating paintings, sculptures, and more! All supplies are included.
Sheila Ruen works as an artist, educator, and consultant, with a focus on community collaboration. Currently, Ruen teaches digital photography at North Central Michigan College, and serves as a consultant to the City of Petoskey Public Art Commission. Formerly, she served as the Visual Arts Director at the Crooked Tree Arts Center in Petoskey, Michigan, where she curated exhibitions and developed community engagement programs. Previously, she served as the Education Director at Ford House in Grosse Pointe Shores, the Arts and Design Department Chair at the William Penn Charter School, a Quaker, an Independent School in Philadelphia, and taught as an adjunct instructor at various schools, including Chicago State University, Philadelphia University, and Stanford University. She earned a Graduate Certificate in Digital Design at the University of Edinburgh, enjoyed a post-graduate painting residency at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste, in Karlsruhe, earned an MFA from the University of Michigan, and a BFA from the California College of Art. Her own creative work is eclectic- spanning digital media, painting, and textiles, from works based on color theory, to works exploring text/image relationships. Outside of her careers and artmaking, Ruen enjoys activities with her dog, swimming, skiing, reading, and aims to spend more time volunteering for organizations devoted to caring for our freshwater.
