In Partnership with the Miller-Van Winkle Chapter of Trout Unlimited
This course will focus on the skills and techniques necessary to follow a recipe and tie flies with consistent results. Some of the skills are:
- Thread Basics: Starting thread, maintaining tension and tying half hitches and the whip finish.
- Material Attachment: Securing tails and ribbing without "crowding the eye" of the hook.
- Proportions: Learning to measure and apply materials using the anatomy of the hook.
- Hackle Work: Moving from simple palmered hackle to more precise dry fly hackle.
In each session, we will tie two flies selected to support the skills progression. The class sessions will concentrate on hands-on skill building. However, for those who would like to delve a little deeper, we will have a list of web sources on the history of fly tying, material selection, tying tools, etc.
The primary instructors will be Ed Davis, William Schoenith and Tom Bielec who will be aided by other tyers from the chapter.
All equipment and materials will be provided.
Cancellations are non-refundable within 48 hours of this event.
