Between 1942 and 1944, a group of ordinary citizens from all walks of life formed a network to smuggle Jews and others targeted by the Nazis through Belgium and France and over the mountains into Switzerland or Spain. This network became known as the Dutch-Paris Escape Line. The people they helped escape the clutches of the Nazis included resistance fighters, political foes, Allied airmen, and young men looking to get to London to enlist. Author Megan Koreman, Ph.D., whose father’s family was part of the Dutch resistance, was given exclusive access to recently declassified archives about the resistance movement for her book, “The Escape Line.” She also talked with several members of Dutch-Paris and their families. She will share her research into this group of ordinary people who took extraordinary risks.
